iPod Will Cease to Exist ?

Drawing comparisons to gadgets like transistor radios and Walkmans, Steve Wozniak, one of the founders of Apple and the current biggest critic of their products, recently said the iPod has had its day at number one.

“The iPod has sort of lived a long life at number one. If you look back to transistor radios and Walkmans they kind of die out after a while. It’s kind of like everyone has got one or two or three,” Wozniak said in an interview to Telegraph, where he talked about many other things including the fate of iPods.

He added, “You get to a point when they are on display everywhere, they get real cheap and they are not selling as much.”

Point taken Mr. Woz as every product has a stipulated shelf-life. But do you think comparing Apple’s most-sold product with the likes of yesteryears gadgets is right? In case of iPods, there is a service tied up with it (read iTunes), which also generates cash for Apple apart from selling hardware. End to iPods also mean slowing the cash flow coming from iTunes DRMed music. Surely Apple won’t let its cash cow die like this. Definitely not!
